More than 120 young people from Toxteth-based music and writing groups were invited to attend the 108-year-old library, which has recently undergone a £1.3m makeover including the creation of a new exhibition and performance space.

His performance was part of a tour of libraries across the country this summer. The tour is in partnership with the national charity The Reading Agency and Akala’s Hip-hop Shakespeare Company: it is part of a major drive to fire up young people about reading and transform the way they think about libraries.

Andrew Carnegie, the philanthropist who gave the people of Liverpool Toxteth Library would be proud to see his legacy thriving today, we’re equally proud we have done our bit in restoring all the original pitch pine parquet floors, approx 1000 sq metres throughout the ground floor and basement , much of the floor covered with carpet for many years and in a very poor state is now restored and ready for the next 100 years.

Toxteth Library is a little gem in Liverpool’s public buildings, now fully restored and keeping its original look and feel, but equipped with modern wifi and a brand new collection of books including a vast collection of new books gifted from China for the Chinese community.

Toxteth Library is located on corner of Windsor Street/Parliament Street, just opposite the Cathedral.
